Performance Comparison of LMS and PGM using Simulation

چکیده
Most proposed reliable multicast schemes have difficulties satisfying all the requirements of emerging multicast applications. For example, SRM trades latency for reduced implosion, and lacks local recovery. Thus, recently, several proposals have been made for schemes that change the traditional IP Multicast model by requiring new services from routers. These router-assisted schemes promise great improvements in scalability and performance over traditional schemes. However, since most such schemes are still either paper designs or if implemented have not been evaluated, such promises have not yet been backed up. In this paper we take a step towards remedying that situation by using simulation to compare and evaluate two such schemes, namely Lightweight Multicast Services (LMS) and Pragmatic General Multicast (PGM), to determine how they perform against each other. Our results using the NS package show that despite its heavier network state, PGM is not as efficient as LMS due to repeated retransmissions and recovery from the sender. Our implementations of PGM and LMS will be publicly available to the NS community to be used along with the existing SRM implementation for comparing RM schemes.

A Comparison of Incremental Deployment Strategies for Router-Assisted Reliable Multicast
Several reliable multicast schemes using router assistance have been proposed recently, which not only promise performance gains, but also simplify applications. Since they require network assistance, the effectiveness of such schemes degrades if the deployment of the required network services is sparse, meaning that an effective deployment strategy is critical. In this paper we study the perfo...
متن کاملTracking performance of incremental LMS algorithm over adaptive distributed sensor networks
in this paper we focus on the tracking performance of incremental adaptive LMS algorithm in an adaptive network. For this reason we consider the unknown weight vector to be a time varying sequence. First we analyze the performance of network in tracking a time varying weight vector and then we explain the estimation of Rayleigh fading channel through a random walk model. Closed form relations a...
متن کاملFrequency Estimation of Unbalanced Three-Phase Power System using a New LMS Algorithm
This paper presents a simple and easy implementable Least Mean Square (LMS) type approach for frequency estimation of three phase power system in an unbalanced condition. The proposed LMS type algorithm is based on a second order recursion for the complex voltage derived from Clarke's transformation which is proved in the paper. The proposed algorithm is real adaptive filter with real parameter...
متن کاملSpeech Enhancement by Modified Convex Combination of Fractional Adaptive Filtering
This paper presents new adaptive filtering techniques used in speech enhancement system. Adaptive filtering schemes are subjected to different trade-offs regarding their steady-state misadjustment, speed of convergence, and tracking performance. Fractional Least-Mean-Square (FLMS) is a new adaptive algorithm which has better performance than the conventional LMS algorithm. Normalization of LMS ...
متن کاملComparison of DC Offset Effects on LMS Algorithm and its Derivatives
It is well known that DC offset degrades the performance of analog adaptive filters. The effects of DC offset on LMS derivatives such as sign-data LMS, sign-error LMS and sign-sign LMS have been studied to much extent but that on MLMS, VSSLMS and NLMS algorithms have remained relatively ignored. The present paper reports the effects of dc offset on LMS algorithm and its four variations Sign LMS...
